.si Domains: NIS2 and Contact Verification from July 2026
Slovenia has turned the European NIS2 Directive into national law through its Information Security Act, ZInfV-1. Since July 2026, Register.si, the registry for .si domains, can require us to check and verify domain contact data.
NIS2 obliges registries and registrars to keep holder data complete and correct. As the domain holder, you share the responsibility for keeping your data correct and up to date. If we need to verify it, we’ll count on you to help.
You’ll find the full background in our article: NIS2 Directive: What Does It Mean for Domain Holders?
Which data has to be verified for .si domains?
In general, we check the following data that you store when you register a .si domain:
- full name (including the legal form for legal entities)
- current postal address
- email address
Not every holder of a .si domain needs its name and address verified. Register.si uses a risk-based model. That means the stored data is checked for completeness and plausibility whenever someone registers, renews, transfers, or updates a domain.
You only need to verify if the check finds inconsistencies. That can also affect domains that have been registered for years.
Since NIS2 took effect in Germany, we also verify the domain contact’s email address as a German registrar. That applies to every new registration, including .si domains.
How can you verify your data?
Register.si requests the verification, but only we, as the registrar, can carry it out. If a verification is needed, we inform our customer (not the domain contact) via email. That message has everything you need to know: the affected domain contact, the deadlines, and instructions for verifying the contact data.
If you haven’t verified your email address by then, you’ll get another email with a confirmation link.
In case you find out during a verification that your stored data is outdated, a simple correction isn’t enough. If you correct the address, you still have to verify the domain contact. If the name is wrong, create a new domain contact instead. Then move your existing domains to the new, correct contact. Once that’s done, you need to verify the new contact.
As long as you haven’t received a request, you don’t have to do anything or submit any documents.
What happens if you don’t verify?
If you don’t respond to a request, Register.si can technically deactivate or delete the domain. Services linked to it, like websites or email, then stop working.
Important: Even if your data is correct, a late or missing response to a request can cost you the domain. So keep the email address you’ve stored with us up to date. That way, the verification request actually reaches you.
What should you do now?
- Check that your stored email address is correct.
- Enter correct data whenever you register, renew, or change a domain.
- Respond quickly when you receive a verification request.
The legal basis comes from Register.si’s policies on collecting, verifying, and disclosing holder data.
