“Handshake” between browser and server: Certificates such as SSL and TLS are used to encrypt the data exchange between the web browser and web server and thus protect it from unauthorized access. It therefore benefits visitors and website operators alike.
Even though the term "SSL (Secure Socket Layer)" has generally been used for the certificates, we at INWX now use the successor technology TLS (Transport Layer Security).

Validation takes place in relation to the domain: The Certification Authority (CA) verifies that you actually have technical access to your domain. This is the simplest form of certification — we recommend it for private sites, blogs and for new companies and online shops. It is often necessary to have a certificate from the Commercial Register Department A (HRA).
