Trainee Story: One Year of Training as an IT Systems Management Assistant at INWX

fromNessa|2–3 min. read time

What can future IT Systems Management Assistants expect from their training at INWX?
In this article, one of our trainees shares her experience from the first year – from technical tasks and customer support to her very own projects. She talks openly about what she’s learned, the challenges she’s faced, and her personal highlights.

1 year of training, 1,000 impressions – and a huge personal plus

Spoiler: I learned a lot – and not just about tech.

I started my training as an IT Systems Management Assistant on August 1st, 2024 – pretty spontaneously. I’d never heard of the job title before, so I Googled it, read a bit, and thought: Yep. Sounds like me. Tech, communication, organization, endless possibilities – why not?

And now? One year later?
I'm still here. And it feels absolutely right.

What I do (and what I don’t)

The training is super diverse – and I don’t mean that as a cliché. I’ve tried out so many different things this year:

  • I work in the ticket system and answer support requests.
  • I advise customers and help with technical issues.
  • I get to be part of the marketing content creation process.
  • I'm currently involved in implementing KRITIS requirements.
  • I contributed to my very first project (!!)
  • I’ve made friends with DNS, domains, name servers & co. (well… kind of 😅)
  • And yes… there's also pricing – ugh. Not my favorite, but it had to be done. Let’s just say: I survived.
  • Oh, and I already got to attend two industry events and represent INWX on-site.

What I truly appreciate about it

I get to explore everything. Really – everything.

If something interests me, I can just ask. And then try it out.
It’s not about being placed in a fixed role – it’s about figuring out:

What am I good at? What do I enjoy? Where can I grow? And the best part: I get to be part of that decision.

Responsibility? Absolutely – and for real.

From the very beginning, I could tell: At INWX, they trust you.
Not someday, once you're “fully trained” – but exactly when you’re ready.

And when that is? You decide.

I’m allowed to bring in my own ideas – and some of them are implemented right away.
(Just check social media… the boss’s office with the funny furniture labels? 🫣 That was me.)

And that shows me: I’m being heard. I’m taken seriously. I get to help shape things.

When it comes to the team – no filter needed

I know it often sounds like marketing in blog posts – but honestly: I haven’t just found coworkers here. I’ve found friends.

People I can laugh with, think with, doubt with, grow with.
People who truly see me.

My trainer? Monty. Funny, (usually) good taste in music – but most importantly, someone who listens when things don’t go well.Who shows understanding when something doesn’t work out. Who doesn’t just accept feedback – but acts on it. And you can feel that. And that’s not something to take for granted. blog_image-Blog_Ausbildung_Monty-1.jpg-1.webp

Self-doubt? Yup. But quieter now.

Of course there are moments when I think:
"Am I asking too many questions?"
"Why don’t I understand this faster?"
"Am I too slow?"

But then, usually someone from the team quickly says:
"You’ve only been here a few weeks. Relax. You’re doing great."
(Okay – it’s been more than a few weeks by now, but the message still holds.)

I don’t have to know everything right away.
I’m allowed to learn. I’m supposed to learn.

And if I fail sometimes – that’s part of the process. Not the end.

Conclusion after one year?

I’ve grown – professionally, personally, mentally.
I’m more focused, more confident, more relaxed.

I know how to breathe deeply.
I know what real trust feels like.

And: I’m genuinely excited for everything that’s still to come.

One year down – and it wasn’t perfect.
But it was mine. And damn valuable. 🚀
